Additional
Tests
We
can find lenses that keep stress off the visual system when there
are no significant visual problems and can prescribe lenses that
compensate for blur, stress, headaches, double vision and other
visual dysfunctions. If
there are visual anomalies that don’t respond to lens therapy
alone, we institute visual training programs specifically designed
for each patient, to remedy these anomalies.
Thorough,
in depth testing is required to evaluate all the visual functions.
A quick measurement of the distance focusing is inadequate, in all
people. From infants through senior citizens, there are tests that
provide the information necessary to make good decisions about lens
prescriptions, and/or additional treatments.
With this strategy we are really evaluating visual development and
current visual functioning, including visual information processing.
With this overview of vision, we have options for supporting the
present status, compensating for inadequacies, or designing therapy
protocols for eliminating deficits in visual performance.
We
test for:
- Binocular
match between the eyes, (eyes working together)
- Convergence
stability, (steady aiming of the eyes).
- Depth
perception
- Spatial
location and orientation
- Eye/hand
coordination
- Visual
memory
- Visual
tracking facility
- Saccadic
eye movement efficiency, (necessary for reading)
- Perceptual
development in children
- Visual
motor development in children
- Multi
tasking in visual activities
- Treatment
stragegies include:
- Lenses
for near work
- Lenses
for computer work
- Lenses
for distance clearness, preferably with a near prescription
built in (bifocals)
- Visual
development guidance
- Partial
occlusion to eliminate double vision
- Visual
training (or therapy)
- Biofeedback
for myopia reversal (reducing nearsightedness)
